This site now has a kinda splodge of my activities across the web from flickr to twitter and even youtube.

Other random pages include Delicious links, a php photo gallery experiment and some other random stuff.
Oh and this page is for a little blog thing that I will update occasionally...doing ok so far! Just need to post something more interesting now...

So this is me testing if this posts a link to twitter when I add a new post.

This is also me going AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH at Twitter being a pain in the ass at communicating with 3rd party apps. The kml_twitter textpattern plugin i’ve been using for ages suddenly stopped working today.
After tweeting about this hiccup it turns out that multiple people have had the same issues.

It also comes at a time when they still haven’t fixed a rather massive security problem and getting round this mostly involves…. yup, using third party apps!!

Needless to say that I’m pissed of that A) They’ve been around this long and still have holes this big in their security and that B) Despite their user base blatantly increasing, they still can’t give us a smooth service, sometimes even breaking the sites that use the twitter output.

Gaaah *goes to blow things up*

Well, it’s not perfect by any means, but I’ve made the TOTW page live with the twitter output going through Yahoo pipes.

It SHOULD spit out pictures that have been tagged, links to last FM stuff that I’ve clicked the “love” button on and links to things that are funny/cute etc but aren’t pictures :P I’ll try and do that for pics that will break the page.

My Eee PC squeezes the columns together too much so the pics usually get pushed down the page but most screens should be ok with it…. fingers crossed!

So, been playing more with yahoo pipes, but not with my own.
Still can’t get my experimental page to keep the history of the rss output from my filtered tweets.
Still, bought some shiny anime, including Karas, so shall be distracted by that for the rest of the day.

Can that happen? I guess it does! I’m sure I’ll update this summore when I have time to breath. My lack of knowledge in php is hindering my mini projects somewhat, but I’ll get there… I hope.

If you (by the very very slim chance that anyone reads this) have noticed the #wtf, #lol and #cute tags I’ve been using on my twitter, then you might’ve been going “what’s with all these tags now?!” Or not… which is much more likely…

Well, I suddenly had an idea when someone at work said they liked my “daily dose” of cute or lol things etc. My TOTW page doesn’t really do anything atm, cos, well… it was just a flakey idea really SO I thought “hmm I’ve got a plugin that posts my tweets, and I know I can filter by # tags!”

BUT

I went one step further, just to melt my brain, I wanted the images I posted to come out too, without needing to follow a URL.
Enter Yahoo Pipes! As suggested by the loverly Andrew Girdwood when I mentioned the idea.

So, it now involves twitter rss feed grabbing, feed filtering by tag, feed stripping in the description of any jibberish before the URL and then turning the URL into the Image tag of w00t!
Then discovered that I tweet too much for the totw page to keep enough images (oops!)

So I now have to use a second yahoo pipe to grab the feed of the first and spit it out as a second feed /*breathes*/

NOW all I need to do is use a re-sizing script so that I can make the images smaller and keep the correct aspect ratio. I’d do this with the same dimensions with all of them except they’re not all the same size… so go* squish*. Have tried using percentages but only shiny up-to-date browsers cope with that properly, ah well.

Lots of fiddling ahead for me and the totw page! I’ll update the links to the new one once I’m happy with it and it’s not so prone to breaking :P

Found one thing that’s a bit annoying about textpattern, it has its own rule in the htaccess for index.php which means it’s just that bit more difficult to stop google indexing duplicate homepageness!
But, I’ve changed all the links in the hope that it’s enough, you’ll only get there if you type it in…and it’ll look exactly the same :P

Ah fun times falls over

Oh, also means that if I try to get all non www urls to go to www. ...then it just goes to index.php…Meh!

Found the widget of widgetness on friendfeed and added it to my Thing of the Week page.

Even managed to find a nice css hack to get rid of the awful white background and make the links match my theme, wooooo.

Also… it’s cold in this room, brr! Tea is in order!
